چکیده

Spontaneous mutations are important for the development of new Citrus varieties, but these mutations appear at a low frequency in nature. In contrast, induced mutagenesis using radiation or chemical mutagens can increase the rate of mutation many fold, which increases the genetic variability that is available for selection. However, few induced mutants have been officially released for cultivation possibly because Citrus plants are vegetatively propagated, with a long reproductive cycle and require large areas for cultivation. The most common methods of mutagenesis used were physical mutagens (e.g., gamma-rays, X-rays or thermal neutrons), and buds or seeds as starting materials. Chemical mutagens were used less often, possibly because there are difficulties of penetration in tissues and the target propagules are not seeds. Most projects using induced mutagenesis in Citrus aimed to develop new cultivars with the following traits: seedless fruits or fruits with fewer seeds, resistance to diseases, improved fruit color in the peel and pulp, reduced plant height, and trees with alteration in harvest time. In several countries, induced mutants of Citrus have been described. The development of new areas of biology (e.g., functional genomics and bioinformatics) and new high-throughput technologies (e.g., high performance sequencing, TILLING (targeting induced local lesions in genomes), microarray, real-time PCR and others) that are associated with induced mutagenesis can help gene discovery programs to elucidate the function and mechanisms of gene action. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Drought Stress in Iranian Endemic Savory (Satureja rechingeri): In vivo and In vitro Studies

The importance of different species of savory is due to having phenolic compounds such as carvacrol and thymol in the essential oil and rosmarinic acid in the extract, having strong antioxidant and antimicrobial effects. This study was conducted on five ecotypes of Satureja rechingeri in in vitro and in vivo experiments. After determining the best shooting and rooting medium, micropropagation w...

Study of genetic diversities and relatedness of Iranian citrus genotypes using morphological and molecular markers

Having knowledge about genetic relationships among accessions is necessary for developing breeding strategies to produce improved cultivars. In present study, genetic diversity and inter-relationship among 29 genotypes of citrus were comparatively analyzed using morphological and RAPD markers. Significant variability was observed among citrus genotypes for 61 quantitative and qualitative morpho...

راه‌اندازی روش‌های آنالیتیک برای ارزیابی مختصات واکسن هپاتیت- B نوترکیب

Background: Hepatitis B vaccination has been included in routine immunization of all individuals according to WHO recommendations since 1991. Despite successful coverage, 3-5% of recipients fail to mount a desirable protection level of Ab. Vaccine failure results from: emergence of mutation, immune failure of individuals, decrease in vaccine potency, and etc. The quality of Hepatitis B va...

Incidence of Mutation for Silver Coat Color in Black Forest Horses

Black Forest horses are typically chestnut colored with flaxen mane and tail. However, as their coat color can get very dark, they are sometimes also indicated as silver, a color depending on a black base color. To analyse if the silver allele is present in the Black Forest horse population, we genotyped 250 horses of this breed for formerly reported coat color mutations within MC1R and SILV. A...

P-120: Meiotic Spindle Visualization and Zona Pellucida Birefringence in Relation to Morphology of In Vivo and In Vitro Matured Human Oocytes of In Vivo and In Vitro Matured Human Oocytesof In Vivo and In Vitro Matured Human Oocytes

Background: The meiotic spindle plays an important role in the oocyte during chromosome alignment and separation at meiosis. The zona pellucid (ZP) is a dynamic matrix composed of filaments with the properties that might reflect the history of oocyte cytoplasmic maturation. Since, spindle and ZP in living oocytes are highly birefringent, their structures can be viewed noninvasively by using a P...
